Lorenzo surgery means he will miss the next MotoGP Tests

With MotoGp into its pre season testing stage it is interesting to see that Jorge Lorenzo seems to have gone back to the mode of his debut year where he threw caution to the wind and in effect destroyed not only his season but also a lot of his credibility with a series of needless crashes and injuries.... Last year he seemed to have settled down a bit, with the resulting improvement in both results and cred.

However this year he has already started throwing himself about with an injury whilst he was training near Barcelona when he suffered a fall from a Moto X bike....... he was diagnosed with a fracture at the base of the first metacarpal and a displaced thumb that has required surgery. Surgeons have made an open reduction and osteosynthesis with a small titanium plate, and Lorenzo will require hand protection for four to six weeks.

Although Lorenzo has now left hospital, the proximity of the next MotoGP test, to be held in Malaysia in two weeks time, means he will be forced to sit on the sidelines.

While he is scheduled to be back on the Fiat Yamaha in time for the Qatar test in March, the limited amount of mileage permitted pre-season is now destined to leave Lorenzo on the back foot compared to team-mate Valentino Rossi and arch-rivals Casey Stoner and Dani Pedrosa.

Rossi and Lorenzo.... No Data sharing.

Rossi and Lorenzo incidentally have seemingly widened their split..... last year the two riders had a wall between their two pit spaces. This year the team have confirmed that in addition to the wall the two will share zero data and each will operate almost as seperate teams. This missing of testing for Lorenzo mentioned above would be quite a blow given that developments Rossi makes in the tests wont be shared with Lorenzo....

It seems Lorenzo is not totally happy with the situation, so one would have to believe that the initiative came from Rossi. Its all very different to the set up at the satellite Tech 3 Yamaha Team, which boasts of an 'open' relationship between Tech 3 riders Colin Edwards and Ben Spies. “If Ben's got any questions or queries then he can come and ask me anything he wants. I'm open to it,” said Edwards. “This team thing, about always wanting to beat your team-mate, I've never thought that way. There are 15 other guys out there I want to beat more than my team-mate.”

The Rossi Lorenzo relationship is sure to be interesting through the year.... :666:

Hayden surgery wont stop him testing.

Other MotoGP riders to go under the knife are Hayden, who had a recurrence of an old injury during the recent Sepang tests..... Nicky went under the knife immediately after the recent MotoGP test in Sepang, Hayden visiting a specialist clinic in Madrid to remove scar tissue from an earlier operation.

However in Nicky's case the op is not going to get in the way of his preparations and he will participate in the next round of MotoGP tests back at Malaysia in two weeks time.

Singapore MotoGP in 2011 stalls and under threat.

The prospect of Singapore being included on the 2011 MotoGP calendar is looking increasingly unlikely after Head of Dorna, Carmelo Ezpeleta revealed plans for a race have made little progress from a preliminary agreement made more than a year ago.

Plans for a race to be held in the Asian country were proposed in November 2008 following the success of the inaugural Singapore Formula 1 Grand Prix night race, with a deal made to bring MotoGP to a new permanent circuit in Changi.

However, a delay in the project, prompted by the Singapore Sports Council in their attempts to increase the area of land set aside for the circuit, means building work is yet to start on the 'Changi Motorsports Hub'.

The SSC is expected to announce which of three consortiums currently bidding to build, finance and manage the circuit it has chosen by the end of March.

Despite being considered an expanding market, the Far East currently only hosts two MotoGP races, one each in in Malaysia and Japan – the race in China was dropped at the end of the 2008 season.

The competition for the MotoGP World Championship title this season between Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo will have an added edge.

On Thursday it was confirmed by Masahiko Nakajima, MotoGP Group Leader and Fiat Yamaha Team Director, that there will be no sharing of data between the two riders this year as they do battle for the crown which the Italian won in 2009.

Commenting on the issue at a press conference in Malaysia to mark the first official MotoGP test of the year, Rossi said that he thought the new method of operating was the correct one.

The Japanese MotoGP race, scheduled to take place at the Twin Ring Motegi next weekend (April 25), has been postponed until early October because of on-going European travel chaos caused by an Icelandic volcano, MCN can reveal.

The Twin Ring Motegi race, which was due to be the second of 18 races on the 2010 MotoGP calendar, will now run on October 3 after crisis talks were held by Dorna management. The race will now be round 14 and run before the Malaysian GP in Sepang on October 10 and the Australian GP at Phillip Island on October 17.

The cancellation means the next round of the MotoGP world championship will be the Spanish Grand Prix at Jerez on May 2. *

Valentino Rossi has escaped with minor injuries after a fall in a motocross training exercise on Thursday near Pesaro.

At first the reigning World Champion did not feel any discomfort, but on Friday morning some pain in his back meant that Rossi opted to have a medical check-up.

An X-Ray confirmed that the 31 year-old Italian had sustained some bruising, but also ruled out any injuries that would prevent him from riding in the Grand Prix of Japan, to be held at the Motegi circuit from April 23rd-25th.**
