Shannons Nationals

Postby Oldtony » March 3rd, 2010, 9:40 am

The Shannons National kick off for 2010 at Wakefield Park Bowral.
The strongest field looks to be the Sports Sedans with good fields in Salloons, IP, HQ etc. The F3 roll up could be a bit weak.
The Production Car group have this one off to lick their wounds or recover from hangovers following the B12
all the news and entry lists on the Shannons web site and even more importantly there is LIVE STREAMING
Check out http://www.thenationals.com.au I think it is on.

Thanks for the heads up OT. :yeh:

Some sensational racing last year and a category I will certainly be following this year.

YES! Don't forget you can watch the races live on puremotorsport.tv (and via the nationals site) with full race coverage and commentary from the track on the sunday and full commentary and timing on saturday (full track video may or may not be available for every session on Saturday due to broadcasting issues)

If you miss out you will have to wait until speedweek to see the action as we can not show replay's or have the footage as video on demand due to licencing issues we are still negociating. I also applore everyone to tune in as this is a one off event and the decision by the nationals to stream the rest of the season with better coverage depends heavily on the sucess of this event.

Also, we love feedback, good, bad, weird.

Best of Luck []Prophet. I for one will be in and out as "other duties" demand on Sunday.
How many cameras? Wakefield Park must be a rather difficult place to get covered for visuals?

We aren't organising the Cameras this time which is why the saturday video is out of our hands. We are getting our feed from the production company that does the filming for Speedweek. We will be take some cameras as a backup though but we have been in contact with them and hopefully we will have a few good angles and some professional camera operators.

The commentary was great mate, and I understand that the full camera bit won't be available until tommorrow but I was having real problems with the picture definition of the live timing screen. Was it a straight data feed or a feed of a screen through a camera. Bit of buffering too. Keep up the good work though it is great to be able to get some live coverage.

It was from the TV screen which is all we were able to get. There us a push to get video for future sat sessions but it's hard to do this cost effectivly. There is also a wish to get live timing via a data feed but this is could take awhile to setup and organise. The nations just want small steps at a time which we are more then happy with since this isn't is only really a hobby for us.

The picture today also isn't brilliant but as we speak better quality feeds are trying to be organised with the techies for future events. There also seems to be people who like messing with out audio trancievers making the sound a tad dodgy............

Plenty more to come if you guys like them. Or name a car and I should have a few pics of it.
And I swear that little red Ford was the loudest thing at the track today.

Interesting day by the sound of it.
Pity that the contracts for most of the leading V8SC drivers stipulate that they can't drive another marque of car other than the Fords and Holdens. My understanding is that a number of them have had to knock back offers of drives in the 6hr and the B12 for that reason.
Prod car has a problem getting sponsor money because it doesn't feature the "stars" which is a pity because it does provide a great showcase.
Is tending to become the Evo show though :2c:

Well yeah, up the front was a whole bunch of Evo's and the John Bowe BMW. The Subaru STI sounded absolutely evil going into turn 1, best sound of the day. Crowd was pretty small, there was two or three times as many people there for the Superlap event a few months ago.

Certainly Speedweek seem to often be showing the Shannon cars on Speedweek a lot.... generally the racing I have seen in the category has been excellent.

hmmmm

well AVE the production house that produce Speedweek (and have been flying the flag for niche motorsport for years!) does have the deal with the Shannons Nationals to be broadcasting all events.

as for the quality of the racing... well i do have a lot time for The Shannons Nats because it does showcase a number of great categories that have either been around for years or should be bigger and included as support categories for the v8 supercars

i must say that seeing tiny fields for Australia's premier open wheel class breaks my heart

It was $20, which I thought was quite cheap.
